Anger compromising his life

Updated: Aug 11

by a Court Chaplain

Nineteen year old James attended Court as the police were seeking an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) on behalf of James’s father. James would also face the Court in a few weeks time on the charge of Intimidation. This was the first time James had been in trouble with the Law.

James is now living with and being supported by other close family relatives.

James sought the Court Chaplains out at their office in the Court after being referred by a friend. After a discussion, James was aware that his anger style was similar to his fathers, it was destructive and his experiences with Anger were causing him problems and compromising his life in a significant way. James was willing to challenge his anger style and opted to commence work on the Anger and agreed to enter into the Positive Living Skills Program.

James was attentive and showed a genuine interest in the program. He earnestly and actively participated in the program and completed homework assigned to assist him better manage his feelings. By the time James was to attend Court again for his criminal charges, he had finished three sessions of the program and I was able to give a court report to the Magistrate to this effect.

The Court took this into account and sentenced James accordingly and then put James on an undertaking to complete the Positive Living Skills Program. I believe James has progressed very well and is now better equipped to apply life skills relating to everyday issues in a positive manner to future situations.
